Probably the busiest painting I have ever created, yet it was fun to work on.
As a child, I fondly remember the nature series of Ladybird Books, where, if you looked closely you could always find hidden creatures. Similarly, I have "hidden" many small alien life forms.

Painted especially for a compendium collection of my book jacket paintings, "Only Visiting This Planet"... inspired by the Genesis song "Squonk" from the CD "A Trick of the Tail".
Squonk's story is quite sad... a Squonk small pitiful creature who hides away deep in the woods, believing he's too ugly to be seen by anyone. When captured by a hunter, he dissolves into a pool of tears.
This painting was also used as the CD sleeve artwork for Emotional Creatures (part one) by progressive rock musician Steve Thorne.

Ireland's west coast is a beautiful place to visit. This is the view of the sunrise on Old Head Beach, Louisburgh, Co Mayo looking across towards Croaghpatrick... one of Ireland's tallest mountains.
